1780 – 14 Aug 1855
Jacob Neyman was born in 1780 in Pennsylvania. Jacob was listed in the Monroe County, Tennessee census of 1830. He came to Benton County, Alabama, in 1831. This part of Benton County is now Cherokee County. His wife (Mary Pugh) may have been a second wife, and there may have been more children. Mary Pugh was born in Tennessee. He settled on Terrapin Creek, and the first records show the spelling as Nighman. He was a cooper, and by the 1860 census, the spelling was Neyman. In the book Settlement of Cherokee County, it uses the spelling Nighman in one place and Neyman in another when talking about Jacob Nighman of Pennsylvania.
