Hubert
Neyman (25 July 1901 – 29 Dec 1974)
Hubert is the third of eleven children of Willie
Lawson Neyman and Adeline
Haley. He was born in Waco,
McLennan County, Texas. From the
research of Joyce Neyman, "Hubert joined the Army at age of 17, while
living in Arkansas. After
mustering from the Army he returned to Arkansas and married Oney Nettles and
they had a son, William who died at the age of 12.
He and Oney were divorced when Billy was small.
He then married Frances Lenora Hardin, who was the widow of George
Robert Brown and had a small son George Robert Brown Jr. whom he reared until
grown. Hubert and Frances had two
children, William Earl and Joan Annette while living in Bay, Arkansas.
He then moved his family to Memphis, Tennessee after securing
employment with Wonder Bread Company. In Memphis their youngest child, Velma
Catherine was born. He then moved
his family to Henning, Tennessee, when he became a guard at Fort Pillow
Prison. During the prison uprising in 1960 he was held hostage by the
prisoners but was not harmed. He
retired from Fort Pillow State Farm. He
died in Lauderdale County Hospital, Ripley, Tennessee from a heart attack
December 29, 1974.
